Discover La Union Bakery #2

Walking into La Union Bakery #2 at 8038 W Sample Rd, Margate, FL 33065, United States feels like stepping into a neighborhood staple where everyone seems to know what they’re ordering before they reach the counter. The smell of fresh bread hits immediately, warm and comforting, and it sets the tone for the whole experience. I’ve been stopping by bakeries across South Florida for years, both casually and while researching traditional Latin baked goods, and this spot stands out for how consistent and down-to-earth it feels every single visit.

The menu is straightforward but packed with options that reflect classic Latin bakery traditions. You’ll see trays of flaky pastries, crusty loaves, and sweet breads that are clearly made with care. On one visit, I watched the staff pull out a fresh batch of Cuban bread, still crackling as it cooled. That crunch on the outside and soft interior isn’t accidental. According to baking guidelines shared by organizations like the American Institute of Baking, proper fermentation time and oven steam are key to achieving that texture, and it shows that the bakers here understand those fundamentals well.

What really keeps locals coming back, though, is how the bakery balances quality with value. I’ve personally ordered breakfast combos that include pastries and coffee for just a few dollars, which feels rare these days. One regular I chatted with mentioned he stops in three times a week because, in his words, best place for fresh bread in Margate, and judging by the steady foot traffic, he’s not alone. Reviews around town often highlight the same thing: dependable food, fair prices, and friendly service.

Beyond baked goods, the menu includes savory items that make it feel more like a diner than a grab-and-go bakery. Empanadas, sandwiches, and small plates are prepared quickly, making it an easy lunch stop. I once timed my order out of curiosity, and from ordering to pickup was under five minutes, even during a busy mid-morning rush. That efficiency comes from a clear workflow behind the counter, something food service studies from the National Restaurant Association note as essential for customer satisfaction and repeat visits.

The location itself is another plus. Being on Sample Road makes it accessible whether you’re a local or just passing through Margate. Parking is simple, and the interior, while not flashy, is clean and functional. It’s the kind of place where you can sit with a coffee, watch people come and go, and feel part of the daily rhythm of the neighborhood. A friend of mine who moved from Miami recently told me she was relieved to find a spot that reminded her of home, calling it authentic Latin bakery vibe without trying too hard.

From a trust perspective, it’s worth noting that information about ingredients and offerings is shared openly when you ask. While there’s limited signage about nutritional details, the staff is happy to explain what’s in each item, which matters more and more to diners today. Like many small bakeries, there may be occasional limitations in variety late in the day if items sell out, but that’s usually a sign things are made fresh rather than mass-produced.

Overall, the experience here is shaped by real people doing real work, day in and day out. The combination of a well-rounded menu, convenient location, and strong community reviews makes this bakery a reliable choice whether you’re grabbing breakfast, picking up bread for dinner, or just craving something sweet with your coffee.

  • 5 1/2 years living in South Florida and FINALLY I found real tacos, not the overdone whatever it is that other places call a taco. I ordered 3 steak tacos. It all starts with the tortilla - handmade corn tortillas of the perfect thickness. The carne was cooked and seasoned (lightly) perfectly. Grilled onion and cilantro with lime and their salsa verde! I’ve been to plenty of taquerias in south Texas and calles del taco on the other side of the border and these are great!!! Price was incredibly inexpensive. I gave 5 stars for ambiance; keep in mind it is a taqueria and should be casual and relaxed which it is. Keepin’ it real, no kickbacks.

  • If you're craving authentic Mexican cuisine bursting with flavor, this restaurant is a must-visit. They offer delicious dishes at great prices, and their fruit waters made from real fruit are simply divine. I appreciate that the food is always fresh, with noticeably crisp vegetables. It's the closest thing to dining in Mexico that I've found so far. Highly recommended

  • I came all the way from Miami to Coral Springs just to try the amazing Mexican food at La Union 2 and it was totally worth it! The birria tacos and chicken tostada were soooo good! Daniela, the Colombian waitress, was super nice and friendly. She took great care of me and made the visit even better. A big applause to the chef, Rogelio, for cooking with so much love you can taste it in every bite! The food, the service, and the vibe were all perfect. I’ll definitely be back!

  • La Union 2 → El Carnal (Margate) This location was originally a Mexican restaurant owned by a family friend, later taken over by the Nieto family as the second La Union location. While the food was consistently good, it never achieved the same following or momentum as the original Wiles Road (Coral Springs) location or the North Lauderdale (#3) branch owned by Sra. Nieto’s grandson, Javier Camacho. In October 2025, ownership transferred to other family friends, and the restaurant was rebranded as El Carnal under new manager Lolita. The menu and kitchen staff remain unchanged, and they continue sourcing baked goods from La Union Bakery. The new ownership plans to expand the menu with new takeout options. The Nieto family continues to operate the two other La Union locations and focus on their grocery/bodega business in Coral Springs. I'm not sure if this is the same folks as “Taqueria El Canal” with multiple locations in Miami, because the logo is different. ##### La Union Margate. I frequently go to this location rather than the original on Wiles Road, only a mile away, because it has more seating and a bigger kitchen that can offer more things. I do notice that they get less breakfast traffic, so if you come in on a late Saturday or Sunday morning, it will be nowhere near as crowded as the original location. I originally tried to go to the Wiles one — and with the Dia de los Muertos holiday approaching many people were lined up, trying to buy baked goods and also the tables were filled with people waiting for takeout at the original so I immediately turned and went to the Margate one. I ordered a chorizo and egg torta sandwich, which was excellent as usual. Rachel got a Sope con Barbacoa and also we ordered a Champurrado which is a type of atole (corn-thickened) hot chocolate drink with spices. Traditionally, this is served with churros or bread for dipping. Churros that are served here are actually Dulce de Leche so the interior gets a wetter texture even when it is hard fried, so just be aware of that.
